Welcome to the Videosynth gallery! This page will showcase some of the video art purported to be created by the ominous presence known as VOODU. Now, I know what you're thinking...
What the hell is "videosynth"? Who the hell is "VOODU"? And why the hell am I still browsing this wretched webpage?!?
Fear not, dear webtrekker, for I can answer at least one of those questions!
Videosynth is hardware or software that synthesizes/modifies a video signal. In the age of analog video, video effects for television were achieved by the use of complicated and expensive hardware such as the Scanimate, Video Toaster, EMS Spectron, Fairlight CVI, Sony DME units, and many more purpose built machines and setups. The visual effects of retro television/tape-based video programming are characterized by the use of these types of machines, which could be used for a wide range of applications, such as displaying text/graphics, transitioning between video sources, keying based on luminence or color, and much more. Luckily, the world of videosynth is more accessible than ever. Affordable hardware and software solutions are now available for all the prospective video artists/chemical enthusiasts who previously would have needed a doctorate in electrical engineering or a job at a local TV station to peruse such an esoteric pastime.
